This recently accepted article titled "Adsorption kinetics and aggregation for three classes of carbonaceous adsorbents in the presence of natural organic matter" is going to be published in Chemosphere. The article was lead by Dr. Ersan and Dr. Apul serves as a co-author. The article compares adsorption kinetics of three generations of carbon-based nanoadsorbents.

2019 UMass Lowell Student Research Symposium

Yigit Bozkurt (1st year Ph.D. student) represented Apul group in 2019 UMass Lowell Student Research Symposium. His poster presentation covered literature compilation for microwave irradiation of waste activated sludge for enhanced biogas production. His long term vision is using this technology in wastewater treatment plants in conjunction with nanoadditives to further improve this technology. His work is supported by Greater Lowell Sanitary District and Massachusetts Clean Energy Center.

New Publication

This recently accepted article titled "Nanobubble Technologies offer opportunities to improve water treatment" is going to be published in Accounts of Chemical Research (IF=21). The article was lead by Dr. Atkinson of Arizona State University and Onur Apul is a co-author. The interesting article explores the potential to exploit the unique properties of nanobubbles for improving water treatment by answering key questions and proposing research opportunities.

Move-in Day for Apul Lab!

Our lab had boxes everywhere today because this week we moved into our new space. The newly renovated space is located at the second floor of Perry Hall (Lowell, MA) with ~600 sq. ft. area, 10 adjustable bench/workstation, sink, blast gates, explosion proof cabinets, access to four fume hoods, plenty of cabinet, drawer and shelf storage and a nice view devoted to overcome barriers in front of nanotechnology-enabled drinking water treatment processes.

New Research Project Announcement

Apul Lab was awarded UMass Acorn Technology Transfer Funds to support the project titles: "Readily Deployable Cartridge for Lead Removal from Water Distribution Pipelines". Our research team is going to investigate composite electrospun fibers enabled with nano-scale carbon-based adsorbents.
